Applications available for VFW essay contests

WEST FARGO – VFW Post 7564 here has kicked off this year’s Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen essay competitions.

Students for both programs compete at the local, district and state level. The top three finishers in each level are recognized with cash gifts, awards and scholarships. The state winner of the Voice of Democracy competition receives an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Voice of Democracy is open to high school students in grades 9-12 with the theme “Why I’m Optimist About our Nation’s Future.” The theme for the Patriots Pen competition, open to students in grades 6-8, is “What Patriotism Means to Me.”
